Moose Hunter Questions
Archery Moose Hunter – Frequently Asked Questions
We do suggest to our hunters to pack as lighting as possible and not to bring unnecessary items of bulk and weight to transport on our barge from the landing to the lodge. Your ATV’s are definitely necessary – and can be driven to camp around the lake, approximately 1 hour drive.
What’s your success rate ?
As all archery hunters know too well, getting your target animal close enough for an accurate, clean kill shot is difficult. Averaging success rate is nearly impossible due to many factors – but hunting in the rut with good calling techniques will increase your chances to the average archery success rate for all game to approximately 33%.
What’s your average sized Bull Moose ?
Like Whitetail Deer, young Bulls will be seen more often than huge older Bulls. But younger Bulls can weight up to 800 lbs and be 6 feet at the front shoulders – where large, mature Bulls are up to 1500 lbs and 8 feet at the shoulders with up to a 60″ antler spread.
How many hunters do you have in camp each week ?
Our hunt schedule is 2 weeks for the archery season, so 1 group of 4 hunters the 1st week, and 2 groups of 4 hunters the 2nd week.
What’s the best hunt week ?
Both weeks of our hunt have equal success throughout the years – it depends on Mother Nature and the weather we get to bring on the rut.
Should I bring my own tree stand ?
Yes if you’d like to hunt from portable stands, but a ground blind will prove to be a better asset to your hunt due to hunting in more open areas near water with no large trees to set stands within bow range.
Should I bring my own ATV ?
Yes – bringing your ATV provides you transportation to remote areas that aren’t accessible by vehicle or boat. You will be instructed how to drive your ATV’s into the back area of camp to the lodge.
Why do you not allow traditional archery equipment?
Experience has taught us, that due to poor performance from some long bows and recurve bows, the percentage of wounded animals that are not retrievable increases. Thus, we take no chances.
Why do you not allow mechanical broadheads ?
Again, experience has taught us, that due to poor performance from all mechanical head, (yes, including Rage) – the percentage of wounded animals that are not retrievable increases. Thus, we take no chances. We only hunt with heavy grain 3 or 4 blade high quality fixed broadheads.
Do Bow Hunters have a spot to practice shooting a target at camp ?
Yes – in fact, we insist on practice for all Bow Hunters. We expect all Bow Hunters and their equipment to be accurate and consistent daily before leaving camp. A good test it to place a square “sticky note” on the target – and impress us and your buddies by putting 3 arrows through the paper !
What time can we arrive at camp on our scheduled Saturday date ?
You can arrive after 12 pm and we’ll have a short orientation meeting. We’ll then look at maps and your Outfitter will guide to you prime areas where he as scouted for fresh Moose sign in the weeks prior to your arrival.
How do I pay my balance on arrival along with license and tax ?
Cash or E-Transfer (no cheques please).
