Fishing Vacation Guest Comments

My husband and I haven’t been on a fishing trip TOGETHER in 47 years.  I
wasn’t expecting to enjoy it very much, but I really did enjoy it a lot!!!
Our cabin which we shared with our friends was perfect for our needs.  It
was well equipped and very comfortable.  Gary and Kim were great, personable
hosts and even provided coffee and delicious muffins every morning at the
main camp, where we shared enjoyable conversation.  They also were great
about meeting our needs as they arose… both with bait and tackle needs,
advice about the lake, and rescue when there was operator error on running
the motor :-).  We caught plenty of fish for eating while there and bringing
home our limits.  I highly recommend Thunderstock Outfitters for a relaxing
and enjoyable fishing trip, whether with family, a couple trip, or a fishing
buddies trip.  Anyone would find the experience very rewarding.
Thanks for all you did!

Kim & Gary,
“We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, notwithstanding the wet weather, which considering, offered better fishing than the sunny days. We found the cabin amenities the best we’ve experienced on any of our fishing trips, including those with meal plans.  Real mattresses, hot shower, clean accommodations and almost mosquito-free given the wet spring we’ve had. The daily attention to providing clean and gassed up boats was really welcome.   While we’re booked for next year, I expect we’ll be in touch for the following year, or even a mid-season getaway before then.  Take care and all the best.”

“Our last trip to visit you was the time of our lives !  With being able to do some bird hunting, this trip was the highlight of my year.  Catching a few Specs on the remote lake was a special trip off my bucket list.  Kim, it was indeed a pleasure to meet you this trip and I don’t know what I’ll do without my morning muffin in September !  Whether you two like it or not, your are now part of our dysfunctional family !  They say you only live once, but if you live right, once is enough.  I’m so glad my path crossed with you both in life.  I look forward to the years ahead up at the lodge.
Please book us into our 2 spots again next year.  I hope I can get more of my family up with us next summer.
Thank you for your generous hospitality, God bless you both.”

“Our trip was great.  All 8 of agreed that we were glad we tried Thunderstock.  Cabins, boat and motors were great.  I agree with your decision to stay with the 4 cabins, keeps it more personal and I think that’s great for return business !  We only have one thing we are pondering for next years plans:  The kitchens are great for 4 people (as they are supposed to be), but were pretty tight with 8 of us (we like to eat our suppers together).  We’ve been contemplating bringing my dining tent and we could maybe eat outside ?  Just our thoughts.  We haven’t totally decided our plans for next year, but I can tell you we really enjoyed Thunderstock and we will likely be talking soon about a potential trip back next year.”

“Hi Gary & Kim,
We had a fantastic hunt & fishing trip at Thunderstock Lodge, my son Jerry’s bear was the highlight of the week. It took a day to start catching fish thanks to Gary`s tip about the island in the second bay. My son and grandson Jacob had an unbelievable day at Pineland Lake, Jacob at 11 years old, has become a Canadian fishing fanatic and wants to go next year. Thanks again for a great week.”

“I do want to state how much we enjoyed our trip.  It was a learning experience to say the very least.  Your hospitality, fishing tips and patience was immensely appreciated.  As you saw, we were exceptionally green.  The cabin was clean and so filled with the little comforts of home.  I didn’t need anything.  Your staff (Devon/ Ashley), were exceptional and of course the scenery, absolutely breath taking.  Thomas loved catching fish and got a huge kick out of seeing the Bald Eagle’s and getting a feather. This visit brought him out of the Xbox world and gave him a true taste of nature. It is our intent to visit in 2016.”

“The four of us went to Thunderstock Outfitters for a 4-day fishing trip in August 2014.  We have experience with many other lodges.  Kim and Gary are fantastic hosts and were responsive to all of our needs and requests.  The scenery is spectacular and we caught lots of fish.  Boats had new motors that ran well.  The cabin was comfortable and clean and the BBQs were all new.  Great fire pit for relaxing around.  You feel like you’ve really gotten away from the hustle and bustle in a pristine wilderness environment.  Overall, a great experience in an amazing setting!”

“We have interacted with Gary through family vacations in 2009 and 2010 in his role as General Manager at a Lodge. Gary understands the hospitality industry very well. Satisfied guests are repeat guests. His very natural, unpretentious and engaging personality serves him well; as he genuinely makes all efforts to ensure each guest has not just a positive experience, but a memorable experience.

Gary is quick to assess his working environment and to apply his experience in bringing about improvements. For example, he developed a very effective fishing lure for guest purchase at reasonable rates. The ATV adventure offering was greatly expanded as he sought out and mapped additional trails, lakes and cleared access points. Although we are not hunters, it is apparent to us that the bear hunting opportunities were significantly expanded and enhanced under his leadership.

Gary really comes into his own as a fishing guide. In a very short period of time he became the on-site expert in terms of the fishing experience be it in the main lake or back lakes. His knowledge of species habits, successful baits and presentation result in great catches. His guide protocol is outstanding as he expertly handles the boat, deals with fish, takes pictures, and passes rods, sandwiches and soda with both ease and humor. He is well acquainted with outboard motors being able to deal with minor real-time faults; as well as, seasonal service including prop and water pump replacement.

We have come to regard Gary not only as a vendor/supplier but also as a friend. It is well known that people prefer to do business with their friends. We wish Gary well in all of his future endeavors and we will continue to follow his progress with interest.”

“I am writing on behalf of Gary Stocking. Gary was the Lodge Manager for a lodge located near Timmins, Ontario where my family spent a week this summer. Gary corresponded with us via email while we made our final decision to spend a week at the lodge. His emails were very informative and helped us to make our final decision to spend a week.

From the afternoon we pulled into the Lodge Parking Lot till the morning we left for home, Gary’s services provided everything from fishing tips to convincing my college aged daughter to take a 36 mile ride on an ATV even though she had never driven one before. She was so glad she decided to go for the ride and enjoyed the scenery.

Gary also planned some special activities for my son Anthony who has Downs Syndrome. Gary took my son for a “Bear Baiting” trip and even presented Anthony with a certificate indicating he was an “Official” Bear Baiter. He also gave Anthony a cap and pin usually reserved for successful bear hunters. Needless to say my son still talks about the trip and pulls the photo album out to reminisce about his Canadian Adventure. Anthony even got his picture on the Lodge’s website courtesy of Gary so all of his friends could see his “trophy” northern.

Gary made sure we had everything we needed during our stay and always had a friendly smile and cheerful greeting for us when we saw him. He demonstrated the skills and personality to make visitors feel welcome and comfortable.
While I was only in Gary’s company for a week, I was impressed with his attitude and dedication to making the week a great experience for our family. I believe he would be a great addition to the management staff of any hospitality business.”

“To whom it may concern.

Through over 4 decades of planning fishing adventures in Northern Ontario, it was not until a few years back that I met Gary through a Northern Outfitter that I knew before we arrived that my team of 6 men would be shown all the comforts of home when it comes to a Lodge venture in the great white North. I am one who wishes to know all about the accommodations, boat arrangements, sleeping arrangements, cottage, weather, fishing status, etc. before we arrived, and Gary answered all my questions. My concern for my team is that they enjoy the venture, thus my standards are a little higher than most. Gary even offered his personal opinions, which I truly appreciated. Once arriving Gary made all our expectations come true along with helpful hints to ensure our trip was perfect, and throughout our stay he was always approachable to answer any questions we had. One point I appreciate is Gary always puts the Lodge’s standards 1st, this is key to a successful business and all guests are treated fairly.
(One story I have is, one day while I we trolling with my partner we had a line entangled in the prop, no worries, it was late in the day, we were a few hundred yards from shore, I had intended in removing this line the next morning before we set off again, but to my surprise the next morning at 7:00 AM…., the line had been removed by Gary, boat was all gassed up and ready for the next day’s fishing, all without a mention from Gary. A true host if I may say so !)

Myself and our party have returned to fish with Gary since our 1st outing and plan to do so in the future. ( My personal opinion is when you spend money and days at a lodge, you want to catch fish yes, if the host is hospitable, the sleeping arrangements comfortable, catching fish is a bonus. Gary made our past trips that catching fish (which we did) was the bonus.
There have been trips over the years where we have caught fish but the hosts and arrangements were as such at we did not return.
Gary Stocking is a man who put the customer 1st and foremost. A welcomed feeling in today’s world.
Thank you Gary !”

Sincerely, Steve Gurgacz, Toronto, Ontario

“RE: Gary Stocking, Lodge Manager.

On behalf of our group, we would like to thank you and your staff for the complete professional service during our visit to your lodge. Thanks to you with your personal touch with everyone in our group of 20, and your staff, you made our fishing trip and reunion a spectacular experience. In our past visits with other lodges, we have never had the privilege to have a manager take care of our every need and ensure that the staff performs efficiently and professionally. Every day during our stay, everything was completely organized to the max! The Lodge with your service is truly the Four Seasons of the North. With you at the helm of the business, we look forward to returning next year and many years to follow.”
